4 Creative Ways to Display Your Art

Writer's picture: Masterpiece ISMasterpiece IS

You've just bought your first piece of art, or you've just added another to your ever-growing art collection, after hours (or days, or weeks) of looking for the ideal piece. So, what's next? Your new treasure needs a display that represents your taste while still allowing the artwork to show. If the thought is too overwhelming for you, and you're unclear how to exhibit your new item, here are some suggestions.

Here's how to start exhibiting artwork in imaginative ways, whether you want to make an entire gallery wall, display a few images, or focus on a single statement piece.

1. Have a stand-alone piece

When you buy a huge original painting, canvas, or metal print, these pieces may occasionally stand alone and be the focal point of the space. These pieces are often stretched over a wood frame (in the case of an original painting on canvas or linen or a canvas print).

2. Buy a frame that compliments the style of your living room

If you want to buy drawings or paper prints, you may need to select a frame that complements both the artwork and your living area. And, just so you know, there are inexpensive methods to accomplish this as well as ways to spend a lot of money.

3. Leave canvases unframed and lean them against a wall or furniture for a modern look

If you rent a home, try resting your artwork against a wall or piece of furniture. This works nicely in a more relaxed setting, enabling the artwork to take center stage. When done correctly, this is a terrific way to shake things up and try something new.

4. For a gallery wall or bookshelf, mix medium, color, and styles

Artwork can be displayed on a bookshelf, gallery wall, or bookcase. Make sure there's a logical grouping of different sizes and that the artworks are complementary in color. Displaying your artwork with books, travel mementos, or house plants is undeniably cool.
